Stillness calls attention to the importance of mental health within minority communities in an effort to break the taboo. For most Asian Americans, strength and honor are drawn from our last names – carrying our family lineage each time we walk into a room while at the same time not allowed any room to inconvenience others with our personal vulnerabilities. In moments of stillness, we can find isolation, depression, anxiety, happiness, warmth and love.

Looking closely, the newspaper articles show instances of mental health struggles in minority communities, the butterflies represent moments of hopefulness and our contrasting emotions can be seen in the stark color selection.
